Baatz Honored For Performance At WIAC Outdoor Championship

Nick Baatz (Jr. • Brownsville) was named the Field Performer of the Meet for his two victories at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship held May 4-5 in Whitewater. The award was determined by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Baatz took first place in both the discus and shot put with distances of 178-11 and 59-2, respectively. His measurement in the shot put established a school record. Baatz also finished seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 179-9.

Earlier this outdoor season, Baatz set another school record with his distance of 182-2 in the discus at the Jeff Miller Drake Alternative Meet.

UW-Eau Claire's Thurgood Dennis was selected as the Track Performer of the Meet. UW-La Crosse's Josh Bucholtz was chosen as the league's Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season.

UW-La Crosse scored 163 points to win the WIAC outdoor title for the 22nd consecutive year. UW-Oshkosh tallied 160 points on the strength of 17 top-four finishes, including four first-place efforts.
