Throwers Shine At Jeff Miller Non-Scoring Meet
Nick Baatz (Jr. • Brownsville) broke the discus school record to highlight UW-Oshkosh’s throwing dominance at the Jeff Miller Drake Alternative Meet on Saturday (April 28) in Whitewater. No team scores were kept.
The Titans owned three of the top-four finishers in both the
hammer throw and shot put. Baatz captured the shot put gold with
his toss of 55-8 1/4. Jeremy Brandt (So. • Wausau) followed in
third place at 50-9 1/4 and Nick Grosskopf (Fr. • Weston)
fourth at 50-2 1/2.
Ben Ludtke (Sr. • Lyons) won the hammer throw with a distance
of 189-6. UW-Oshkosh added strong finishes of second (178-10) from
Baatz and fourth (167-4) from Joe Brunner (So. • Reedsville).
Baatz concluded his spectacular day with a second-place discus mark
of 182-2, breaking the Titan record from 2003.
UW-Oshkosh had three other event winners. Alan German (Sr. •
West Bend) cleared 21-3 1/2 in the long jump, while Dan Groshan
(So. • Janesville) took the 200-meter dash in 23.48. Derek
Johnsrud (So. • Fall River) clocked a 15:32.38 in the
5,000-meter run for first place.
Mike Servais (Fr. • New Franken) attained second-place results in both the 200 (23.70) and 400-meter (51.12) dashes. The other runner-up finish came from Kris Wilke (Sr. • Waterloo) and his 400-meter hurdles time of 55.43.
With the pole vault, Jake Dickmann (Jr. • Kewaskum) and Tom
O'Connor (Sr. • Clintonville) tied for third place at 14-7
1/2. Jordan Carpenter (Fr. • Ashwaubenon) also came in third
with a 4:06.37 in the 1,500-meter run.
UW-Oshkosh returns to Whitewater for the WIAC Championship on May
4-5.
