German Scores Two Of Titans' Four Victories

Alan German (Sr. • West Bend) took first in both the 110-meter hurdles and javelin at the Phil Esten Men’s Track & Field Challenge on Friday (April 20) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse won the 10-team meet with 222 points, while UW-Oshkosh took second at 170.5. UW-Eau Claire listed third at 130.5, while UW-Stout came in fourth with 83 and UW-River Falls fifth with 67.


The Titans excelled in the short track events, including German’s winning 110-meter hurdles time of 14.95. He later threw the javelin 169 feet for another victory.

Corey Wilch (So. • Waukesha) booked a win with his 53.13 in the 400-meter hurdles. UW-Oshkosh’s last triumph came from Donald Klitz (Jr. • Markesan), who cleared 6-6 3/4 in the high jump.

Nick Baatz (Jr. • Brownsville), who scored 21 points, and Ryan Sprenger (So. • Larsen), who tallied 14, also made big contributions. Baatz finished second in both the discus (166-7) and shot put (56-9 1/4) while listing fourth in the hammer throw (182-6). Sprenger earned second place in the 100-meter dash at 10.90 and third in the 200-meter dash at 22.19.

Also in the 200-meter dash, Quentin Badger (So. • Madison) took second with his 22.12. Kris Wilke (Sr. • Waterloo) obtained the other runner-up finish with a 400-meter hurdles mark of 56.20. UW-Oshkosh also crossed the line second in the 400-meter relay at 42.18.

Pete Delzer (Jr. • Oconto Falls) and Ben Ludtke (Sr. • Lyons) finished 2-3 in the hammer throw, posting distances of 187-0 and 186-10, respectively. Other third-place results came from John Cejka (Jr. • Wausau) in the 400-meter dash at 48.52, Jordan Carpenter (Fr. • Ashwaubenon) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:36.29 and Jeremy Roach (Sr. • Deerfield) with his javelin toss of 166-2.

UW-Oshkosh will send athletes to the Drake Relays (Iowa) and Gina Relays (Mich.) on Thursday-Saturday (April 26-28).
