Four Titans Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
UW-Oshkosh’s Jordan Carpenter (Fr. • Ashwaubenon),
John Dewitt (Jr. • Oshkosh), John McCann (So. • Elroy)
and Tyler Morey (Sr. • Combined Locks) each compiled a 3.59
cumulative grade-point average and were named to the 2012 NCAA
Division III All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and
Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The USTFCCCA recognized 230 men, including a league-best 45 from
the WIAC. The honorees included 12 from Haverford College (Pa.), 10
from UW-La Crosse and nine from North Central College (Ill.).
Carpenter is a business major with a 4.0 cumulative grade-point
average. He finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the
WIAC Outdoor Championship. Carpenter’s top time of 9:16.52
ranked 35th in the nation.
Dewitt also owns a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average. The
secondary education major placed 14th in the 10,000-meter run at
the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship. During the fall cross
country season, Dewitt received the NCAA Division III Elite 89
Award for having the highest cumulative grade-point among national
competitors.
McCann posted a high jump mark of 6-8 1/4 during the indoor
campaign to rank 14th in the country. He owns a cumulative
grade-point average of 3.59.
Morey, with a 3.68 cumulative grade-point average, is working on
his master’s degree in business administration. He clocked a
3,000-meter steeplechase time of 9:04.74 to place 13th at the NCAA
Division III Outdoor Championship.
The USTFCCCA selected UW-Stout’s Tim Nelson as its Indoor
and Outdoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year. UW-Eau
Claire’s Tyler Genovese received the indoor field honor,
while Tim VanLiew of Rutgers-Camden University (N.J.) gained the
outdoor field award.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team,
the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point
average of 3.30 and have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or
Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the
national top 35 of an individual event or in the national top 25 of
a relay event on the official NCAA Proof of Performance list.
