Titans Place 10th At NCAA Outdoor Championship

UW-Oshkosh earned a top-10 finish for the ninth consecutive year as it finished 10th at the NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Thursday-Saturday (May 26-28) in Columbus, Ohio.

The Titans accumulated 19 points, while first place went to North Central College (Ill.) with its total of 58. UW-La Crosse was just behind with 56, as McMurry University (Texas) placed third with 50 points. Washington University came in fourth at 34 and the University of La Verne (Calif.) took fifth with 33.

Tony Baker (Sr. • Oshkosh) posted three top-10 finishes to pace UW-Oshkosh. He took third in the discus with a flight of 169-2 and seventh in the shot put with a mark of 55-2 ¼. Baker added a 10th-place figure of 186-1 in the hammer throw.

Marking a fourth-place score in the shot put was Nick Baatz (So. • Brownsville), who tossed it 56-6. Baatz also took fifth in the discus with his flight of 168-2. Pete Delzer (So. • Oconto Falls) was the other throwing standout, earning eighth place with the discus (159-10) and 10th position with the shot put (53-11 ¾).

Quentin Badger (Fr. • Madison) was the final Titan to score, as he placed eighth in the 200-meter dash at 22.82. Other notable finishers for UW-Oshkosh were Lewis Prior (Jr. • Coleman) with a 10th-place discus performance (158-5) and Tyler Morey (Jr. • Combined Locks) with an 11th-place time (9:18.84) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The Titans, who won the outdoor national title during 2009, placed fourth at this year’s NCAA Division III indoor meet.
