Titans Send A Dozen Athletes To NCAA Indoor Championship

Tony Baker (Sr. • Oshkosh), John Cejka (So. • Wausau) and Pete Delzer (So. • Oconto Falls) will compete in two events each as UW-Oshkosh sends 12 athletes to this weekend's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship in Columbus, Ohio.

Competition in the two-day meet begins at 9:30 a.m. (ET) on Friday (March 11) and continues at 9 a.m. (ET) on Saturday (March 12) at The Capital Center on the Capital University campus. The meet features 15 events, with the top eight finishers earning All-America status. The top four teams collect a trophy.

UW-Oshkosh, which shared the 2009 NCAA Division III title with UW-La Crosse, finished fourth at last year's meet with 31 points. The Titans are expected to battle Amherst College (Mass.), Central College (Iowa), defending champion North Central College (Ill.) and UW-La Crosse for a top-four finish at this year's spectacle.

Baker and Delzer are both entered in the 35-pound weight throw and shot put competitions. Baker is seeded seventh in the 35-pound weight throw with a season-best distance of 62-5 3/4 and ninth in the shot put with a mark of 55-0. He earned All-America honors at last year's meet with a third-place distance of 61-5 in the weight throw. Delzer is ranked fifth in the shot put with a measurement of 55-3 and sixth in the weight throw with a 62-11 1/2 figure.

UW-Oshkosh has a third contestant in both the weight throw and shot put with Ben Ludtke (Jr. • Lyons) and Nick Baatz (So. • Brownsville). Ludtke is seeded fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 63-1 1/4, while Baatz ranks eighth in the shot put with a mark of 55-1. Bryan Kolacz of Keene State College (N.H.) is the top seed among 14 weight throw participants with a distance of 65-9. Nebraska Wesleyan University's Elliott Bulling is the top seed among 13 shot put entrants with a toss of 58-4.

Alan German (Jr. • West Bend) will represent the Titans in the pentathlon. He is seeded 12th with 3,496 points. Central College's Ethan Miller is the top seed among the event's 12 competitors with 3,876 points.

UW-Oshkosh also earned qualifying spots in the 1,600-meter and distance medley relays. Members of the 1,600-meter relay team are John Cejka (So. • Wausau), David Edwards (Sr. • Waterford), Chris Lipke (Sr. • Wautoma) and Corey Wilch (Fr. • Waukesha). The quartet is seeded seventh with a time of 3:18.29. McMurry University (Texas) is the top seed among the event's 10 entrants with a 3:17.17 mark.

The Titans look to continue their national legacy in the distance medley relay, where they earned All-America status 10 times in the past 11 years. Members of this season's group are Cejka, Brett DeNure (So. • Monroe), Nate Stymiest (Jr. • Oconto Falls) and Ben Wizner (Sr. • Onalaska). UW-Oshkosh's squad is seeded third with a time of 9:55.45. Amherst College is the top seed among the event's 10 participants with a mark of 9:52.11.
