Titans Place Second At Phil Esten Challenge

UW-Oshkosh had three event winners and five runner-up performances to highlight its second-place finish at the seven-team Phil Esten Challenge on Friday (April 15) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse won the meet with 199.5 points followed by UW-Oshkosh with 171.5. Following in third place was UW-Eau Claire with 114 points, UW-Stout in fourth place with 86, UW-River Falls in fifth with 69, Wartburg College (Iowa) in sixth with 68 and St. Mary’s University (Minn.) in seventh with 18.

Taking first place for UW-Oshkosh were Corey Wilch (Fr. • Waukesha) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.12, Tyler Morey (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:26.66 and the 400-meter relay team of Ryan Sprenger (Fr.• Larsen), Alex DeWitt (So. • Howard), Brent Jude (Sr. • Milwaukee) and Quentin Badger (Fr.• Madison) in a time of 42.66.

The Titans enjoyed second place results from Chris Lipke (Sr. • Wautoma) in the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.54, David Edwards (Sr. • Waterford) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.67, Nick Baatz (So. • Brownsville) in the shot put with a heave of 53-9 1/4, Tony Baker (Sr. • Oshkosh) in the hammer throw with a cast of 176-9 and the 1,600-meter relay foursome of Lipke, Wilch, Edwards and John Cejka (So. • Wausau) in a time of 3:25.83.

UW-Oshkosh had third place positioning from Badger in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.12, Cejka in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.43, Grant O’Connell (Jr. • Appleton) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:57.21, Jake Keehan (Sr. • Green Bay) in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32:04.84, Blaise Dueling (So. • Greenfield) in the long jump with a mark of 22-11 1/4, and Pete Delzer (So. • Oconto Falls) in the shot put with a cast of 52-4 1/2 and in the discus with a heave of 158-10.

Fourth place results for the Titans were provided by Nate Stymiest (Jr.• Oconto Falls) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:44.62, Cesar Raygoza (So. • Sheboygan) in the pole vault with a leap of 15-3, Derek Vanden Langenberg (Fr. • De Pere) in the triple jump with a leap of 37-10 and Baker in the shot put with a throw of 51-4 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh found fifth place performances from Sprenger in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.67, Erik Hofferber (Fr. • Neenah) in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32:17.21, Kris Wilke (Jr. • Waterloo) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 58.67 and Donald Klitz (S0. • Markesan) in the high jump with a height of 6-2 3/4.

The Titans enjoyed sixth place results from Dan Groshan (Fr. • Janesville) in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.69, Ryan Gregory (Fr.• Mahtomedi, Minn.) in the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.68, Jeremy Brandt (Fr. • Wausau) in the discus with a toss of 151-4 and Delzer in the hammer throw with a mark of 166-4.

Achieving seventh place finishes for UW-Oshkosh included Dewitt in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.20, John Block (Fr. • Madison) in the 800-meter dash in a time of 2:01.18, Baatz in the discus with a heave of 151-0 and Ben Ludtke (Jr. • Lyons) in the hammer throw with a cast of 160-10.

The Titans had eighth place results from Mike Foust (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 34:10.98, Frank O’Neal (So. • Viroqua) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.04, Jerrod Berget (Jr. • New Richmond) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:05.41 and Alan German (Jr. • West Bend) in the long jump with a distance of 20-11 3/4.
