Titans Defeat Eagles, Lose To Blugolds By 5-4 Scores

The UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team was on both the winning and losing side of a 5-4 result on Saturday (April 19) in La Crosse.

UW-Oshkosh (13-8) lost to UW-Eau Claire (13-9) in its first match of the day before defeating UW-La Crosse (14-6) in the nightcap. The contests closed the regular season for the Titans.

Bobby Brooks and Kevin Lewis went unbeaten in six matches for UW-Oshkosh, including two as doubles partners.

Competing at No. 1 singles, Brooks defeated Ryan Vande Linde of UW-Eau Claire, 6-3, 6-4, and Tony Mirasola of UW-La Crosse, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Lewis performed at No. 2 singles and posted wins of 6-4, 6-4 over Joe Meier of UW-Eau Claire and 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 over Peter Stadum of UW-La Crosse. Lewis raised his season record to 18-3 with the victories.

Brooks and Lewis worked together at No. 1 doubles to defeat Meier and Vande Linde of UW-Eau Claire, 8-3, and Mirasola and Stadum of UW-La Crosse, 9-7. Brooks and Lewis now own a season doubles record of 17-4.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining victory against UW-Eau Claire was at No. 2 doubles. The 8-6 win went to Mike Gillespie and Aidan Sauberlich and over Josh Chuba and Nathan Tretsven.

UW-Oshkosh secured its win against UW-La Crosse with three-set victories from Alexander at No. 5 singles and Alex Yang at No. 6 singles. Alexander defeated Dante Pitera, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, while Yang ousted Simon Brandt, 6-7, 7-5, 7-5.

UW-Eau Claire recorded four of its five wins against UW-Oshkosh in singles play. The Blugolds received victories from Tretsven in the third flight, Chuba in the fourth, Will Weyenberg in the fifth and Conrad Felten in the sixth.

Tretsven edged Gillespie, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, while Chuba beat Sauberlich, 6-0, 6-3, and Weyenberg defeated Alexander, 6-1, 6-3. Felten slipped past Yang by scores of 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.

At No. 3 doubles, UW-Eau Claire's Weyenberg and Luke Zweiner defeated Alexander and Matt Brooks, 8-4.

UW-La Crosse won twice in both singles and doubles action against UW-Oshkosh.

The Eagles' Kyle McGrane defeated Gillespie, 6-3, 6-1, in the third singles flight, while Nick Skanavis ousted Sauberlich, 6-4, 6-0, in the fourth.

At No. 2 doubles, McGrane and Pitera posted a narrow 8-6 win over Gillespie and Sauberlich. Skanavis and Thomas Joswiak won at No. 3 doubles with an 8-3 victory over Alexander and Matt Brooks.
