Titans Cruise Past Green Knights, Red Hawks

UW-Oshkosh won all 12 singles contests as it rolled to victory over the St. Norbert College and Ripon College men's tennis teams on Saturday (March 31) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

UW-Oshkosh (8-10) defeated St. Norbert College (4-10), 9-0, in the opener before ousting Ripon College (1-8), 8-1, in the nightcap. The Titans have won five of their last eight matches.

Bobby Brooks (So. • Neenah), Kevin Lewis (So. • Howard) and Aidan Sauberlich (Fr. • Green Bay) gave UW-Oshkosh a pair of individual victories in straight sets.

Competing at No. 1 singles, Brooks posted wins of 6-3, 6-2 over Derek Harrington of St. Norbert College and 6-3, 6-0 over Eric Seiler of Ripon College.

Lewis had little trouble in posting victories of 6-0, 6-1 over Tim Hartwick of St. Norbert College and 6-0, 6-0 over Derrick Winterhack of Ripon College at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Sauberlich marked triumphs of 6-1, 6-0 over Matt Lobeck of St. Norbert College and 6-1, 6-1 over Sam Ewig of Ripon College.

Scott Niemi (Sr. • Appleton) and Jason Alexander (So. • Fond du Lac) added a pair of wins for the Titans at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Niemi defeated Nick Acosta of St. Norbert College, 6-7, 6-0, 6-1, before trouncing Alex Tande of Ripon College, 6-0, 6-0. Alexander notched a 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory over Josh Sweere of St. Norbert College and a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Brian Schumacher of Ripon College.

Winning at No. 6 singles for UW-Oshkosh were Adam Kasper (Jr. • Franklin) and Anthony Greco (So. • Kenosha). Kasper edged Nate Gosz of St. Norbert College, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, while Greco topped Ryan Slowinski of Ripon College, 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles action, Brooks and Lewis won for the Titans at the highest level with decisions of 8-6 over Acosta and Harrington of St. Norbert College and 8-2 over Ewig and Seiler of Ripon College.

At No. 2 doubles, UW-Oshkosh obtained an 8-4 win from Kasper and Sauberlich over Hartwick and Costin Fink of St. Norbert College and an 8-1 victory from Kasper and Josh Hopfensperger (So. • Neenah) over Schumacher and Tande of Ripon College.

UW-Oshkosh completed its shutout of St. Norbert College with an 8-2 win by Hopfensperger and Niemi over Lobeck and Sweere at No. 3 doubles.

Ripon College earned its lone team point when Slowinski and Winterhack posted an 8-6 victory over Kinan Al-Bitar (So. • Oshkosh) and David LaGrange (Fr. • Onalaska) at No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh battles the Milwaukee School of Engineering on April 13 in Mequon.
