Lieder's Record-Setting Efforts Leads Titans At WIAC Championship

Freshman Jarrett Lieder was involved in the creation of four UW-Oshkosh records during the three-day WIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship that ended Saturday (Feb. 17) at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.

Lieder established a pair of UW-Oshkosh best with his second-place swim in the 1,650-yard freestyle. His overall time of 16:31.67 set a new record along with his time of 10:00.40 at the 1,000-yard mark of the race.

Lieder also formed a new school record with his preliminary time of 4:42.34 in the 500-yard freestyle. He went on to finish sixth in the event with a time of 4:42.55 while also placing ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a swim of 1:45.13.

Lieder shared his remaining record-setting performance with teammates Trevor Jacobs, Ian Sewell and Josiah Vandenberg. The group formed a new UW-Oshkosh standard in the 800-meter relay with their fifth-place time of 7:11.15.

Vandenberg also earned a trio of top-16 finishes while Jacobs and Sewell both registered two apiece.

Vandenberg ranked 11th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.66, 13th in the 100-yard butterfly at 53.66 seconds and 16th in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:01.22.

Sewell placed 14th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.61 seconds and 15th in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:50.41 while Jacobs finished 16th in both the 50- and 200-yard freestyles with times of 23.29 seconds and 1:50.62, respectively. 

UW-Oshkosh had three other multiple place winners, including Matt Wilke, who finished second in the 1-meter diving with 460.65 points and third in the 3-meter diving with 443.05.

Grady Hilgendorf added a 12th-place time of 59.99 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 16th-place performance of 17:43.32 in the 1,650-yard freestyle while Bryan Solomon contributed a 13th-place time of 2:01.91 in the 200-yard butterfly and a 15th-place effort of 54.68 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Titans also had Nathan Newman finish 15th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.20 seconds and Mitchell Bricco 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:26.51.

UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the team competition with 245 points. 

UW-Stevens Point scored 905 points to win its 19th straight WIAC title and 22nd overall. The Pointers were followed in the five-team meet by second-place UW-Eau Claire with 711 points, third-place UW-La Crosse with 635.5 and fourth-place UW-Whitewater with 583.5.
