Titans Rise Above Falcons In Season Opener

UW-Oshkosh swept the top three places in the 100-yard butterfly during its 121-110 victory over the UW-River Falls men's swimming & diving team on Friday (Oct. 19) in Albee Hall. The meet was the season opener for the Titans.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Brian Markovich (Sr. • Colgate) won the event with his time of 57.07. Patrick Keleny (Fr. • Madison) was right behind in 57.65, as Nelson Figueroa (So. • Pleasant Prairie) finished third in 1:00.95.

The Titans' other individual winners were Eddie Dominguez (Sr. • Milwaukee) and Zach Hogan (Fr. • Milwaukee). Dominguez captured the 50-yard freestyle in 23.67, while Hogan marked a time of 1:01.43 to take the 100-yard backstroke.

Hogan also swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that posted a winning time of 1:48.75. The squad also included Figueroa, Nicholas Siebenaller (Fr. • Germantown) and Bryan Stoffel (So. • Wittenberg).

Quin Lenz (Jr. • Oshkosh) excelled in the long freestyle races, placing second at both 500 yards in 5:32.17 and 1,000 yards in 11:19.40. On the diving board, Zach Seelman (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) finished second with his scores of 149.45 at one meter and 141.75 at three meter.

Both Dominguez and Markovich earned an individual second-place result and contributed to UW-Oshkosh's second-place 200-yard freestyle relay team. Dominguez posted a time of 51.95 in the 100-yard freestyle, while Markovich notched a time of 23.90 in the 50-yard freestyle. The duo joined Samuel Esselman (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Bobby Theer (So. • Green Oaks) to finish its relay in 1:35.52.

The Titans attained five more second-place finishes, coming from Keleny in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:15.43, Stoffel in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.65, Cole Becker (So. • Menomonee Falls) in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.98, Sam Green (Fr. • Germantown) in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:32.66 and Nick Krueger (So. • Hartford) in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.07.

UW-Oshkosh has a dual meet at Carroll University on Saturday (Oct. 27).
