Devine Earns Fifth All-America Honor

Phil Devine (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) broke the national three-meter diving record on his way to a second-place finish at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship on March 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Titans’ lone representative posted a score of 588.75, only to see his new standard bested minutes later by Phil Halbach (USMMA). Halbach won the three-meter event at 591.65, while also taking home the one-meter title with a score of 497.80.

Devine, last year’s three-meter national champion, now owns five All-America finishes. He competed in the one-meter event as well, just missing another accolade with his ninth-place score of 418.75. Andrew Krafft (Calvin College) took second on the plank at 459.00, followed in third by Brian Sobel of Springfield College (Mass.). Krafft tacked on a third-place showing in the three-meter final with his 551.40.

Denison University (Ohio) pulled off a major victory by ending Kenyon College’s (Ohio) NCAA-record streak of 31 straight titles. Denison compiled 500.5 points, topping Kenyon’s 499.5 and Emory University’s (Ga.) 348.5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Williams College (Mass.) tied for the fourth position with 224 points.

UW-Oshkosh used Devine’s 26 points to finish 27th in the standings. It was the third straight year the Titans placed in the top 27. A total of 49 teams scored at the championship.
