Eagles’ Assault Sinks Titans

Dalton Anderson (So. • Elkhorn) won both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle as UW-Oshkosh fell to the UW-La Crosse men’s swimming and diving team, 174-65, on Saturday (Jan. 15) in Albee Hall.

The Eagles swept the top four places in two different events to record the victory. In the 100-yard freestyle, Joel Knuesel topped three teammates with his time of 49.72. Spencer Loch took the 100-yard backstroke at 56.22, edging out Casey Borden’s mark of 56.40.

Anderson’s two first-place finishes came by comfortable margins. In the 200-yard freestyle, he notched a 1:46.87. Anderson then topped four consecutive UW-La Crosse swimmers with his time of 52.79 in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Titans had two other event champions in Tim Kuckuk (So. • Plymouth) and Brian Markovich (Jr. • Colgate). The three-meter dive belonged to Kuckuk and his score of 271.87. Markovich touched the wall in 23.13 to capture the 50-yard freestyle.

Kuckuk was the only Titan to earn a second-place showing, which he accomplished with his 252.60 in one-meter diving. Finishing in third place, Markovich performed well in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.44) and Eddie Dominguez (So. • Greendale) tallied a 23.98 in the 50-yard freestyle. The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Anderson, Dominguez, Matt Engelhardt (So. • DeForest) and Jeremy Potter (Sr. • McFarland) also finished third in 1:35.51.

UW-Oshkosh’s fourth-place showings consisted of Engelhardt’s 24.09 in the 50-yard freestyle, Jon Streich’s (Jr. • Hubertus) 2:16.20 in the 200-yard individual medley and Quin Lenz’s (Fr. • Oshkosh) 5:35.97 in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Titans will compete in the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 21-22).
