Titans Strike Down Red Hawks In Home Finale

Phil Devine (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) broke two school records as UW-Oshkosh dominated the Ripon College men’s swimming team, 151-73, on Saturday (Feb. 5) in Albee Hall.

Devine was one of four Titans to win multiple events. On the three-meter board, Devine marked a 365.00. He added a winning score of 358.20 in the one-meter diving competition. Tim Kuckuk (So. • Plymouth) finished second in both events, posting a 233.05 at three meters and a 231.00 at one meter.

The freestyle races belonged to Eddie Dominguez (So. • Greendale), who captured both the 100-yard (52.78) and 200-yard (1:56.90) events. Dalton Anderson (So. • Elkhorn) won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.43, while also taking the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.35.

The Titans’ other double champion was Jon Streich (Jr. • Hubertus). He finished first in the 400-yard individual medley (4:55.33) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.97). Matt Engelhardt (So. • DeForest) tacked on a victory in the 100-yard backstroke with his 58.86, as did David Stanisch (Fr. • Middleton) in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:17.46.

Stanisch continued his success with a second-place performance in the 400-yard individual medley (5:02.80). Brian Markovich (Jr. • Colgate) compiled two runner-up scores with his 22.81 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 59.16 in the 100-yard backstroke. UW-Oshkosh’s other second-place result came from Quin Lenz (Fr. • Oshkosh), who touched the wall after 1:11.52 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Titans’ 400-yard freestyle relay team won with its mark of 3:22.69. In the 400-yard medley relay, UW-Oshkosh placed third at 4:18.77. Other third-place listings came from Engelhardt in the 50-yard freestyle (23.70) and Alex Socha (Jr. • Pleasant Prairie) in both the one-meter dive (210.50) and three-meter plunge (201.15).

UW-Oshkosh will compete in the WIAC Championship on Feb. 17-19 in Brown Deer.
