Titans' Hernandez Named To All-Region First Team

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) selected UW-Oshkosh men's soccer player Jacob Hernandez to its NCAA Division III All-North Region First Team.

Hernandez, a junior midfielder, earned All-North Region status for the second straight season after collecting second-team honors in 2014. He becomes the 22nd Titan to receive all-region first team accolades by the NSCAA.

This season, Hernandez started all 17 matches that he played for the Titans and led the squad with 12 points and eight assists. His 39 shots were second on the team, while his two goals were tied for fourth best.

Hernandez notched two assists in three matches this season – a 4-0 win over Southwestern University (Texas) on Sept. 4, a 3-0 victory over St. Norbert College on Sept. 30, and a 5-1 decision over Finlandia University (Mich.) on Oct. 28.

Hernandez added a goal in the win over Finlandia University for a season-high four points. His other goal was the game winner during the Titans' 6-0 victory over Central College (Iowa) on Sept. 20.

Hernandez has played in 59 of UW-Oshkosh's 60 games over the past three seasons, registering 29 points, 15 assists and seven goals, including three game winners.

Hernandez was one of three midfielders selected to the 12-member All-North Region First Team.

Also named to the first team were goalkeeper Zeke Vainer from Macalester College (Minn.); defenders Charles Edemba from Knox College (Ill.), Kevin Krueger from Wartburg College (Iowa) and Justin Stanko from UW-Whitewater; midfielders Branden McGarrity from Carleton College (Minn.) and Alan Schembri-Winsmayer from Macalester College; and forwards Kyle Farrar from The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), Dylan Hartman from Lake Forest College (Ill.), Gonzalo Hernandez-Cascante from the University of Dubuque (Iowa), Nathaniel Logie from Knox College and Johnny Rummelhart from Loras College (Iowa).

UW-Oshkosh ended the season with an 11-4-3 record and its 14th appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship.
