Titans Cage Cardinals
Nick Laubenstein (Fr. • Howard) scored on his only shot of the contest as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team nipped Saint Mary's University (Minn.), 1-0, on Saturday (Sept. 25) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
Laubenstein broke a scoreless tie when he headed a pass from Tim Stadler (Jr. • Wauwatosa) into the goal at the 53:31 mark of the contest. The goal was Laubenstein's third of the season.
UW-Oshkosh (8-0-1), which entered the contest ranked 20th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, compiled 21 shots and nine corner kicks. Stadler, Mike Franzen (Sr. • Sussex) and Devon Prideaux (Sr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.) each attempted four shots to lead the Titans.
Saint Mary's University (2-7), which became UW-Oshkosh's sixth straight shutout victim, was limited to just four shots. The Cardinals had Steve Boussie, Bobby Gas, Bryan Neu and Juamaine Venter attempt one shot each.
UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike (Jr. • Wauwatosa) went without a save as he recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
Saint Mary's University goalkeeper Chris Williams saved nine shots, including six in the second half.
UW-Oshkosh plays the first of six straight road matches when it travels to Lawrence University on Tuesday (Sept. 28).
