Molenaar Coaching Era Begins With Shutout Victory

Tim Stadler (Jr. • Wauwatosa) and Tony Starnes (So. • Green Bay) supplied the scoring as Wytse Molenaar began his first season as head coach of the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team with a 2-0 victory over Aurora University (Ill.) on Wednesday (Sept. 1) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh took a 1-0 lead when Stadler headed a shot into the goal at the 21:32 mark of the match. His game-winning strike came off passes from Andy Kohel (Sr. • Racine) and Robby Giljohann (Jr. • Pewaukee).

UW-Oshkosh, which has won seven of its last eight season openers, held its slim advantage until Starnes scored with 4:53 left. Assisting on the goal were Stadler and Mike Franzen (Sr. • Sussex).

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) posted advantages of 13-6 in shots and 7-0 in corner kicks. The Titans counted seven of their shots and six of their corner kicks in the first half.

UW-Oshkosh's shot total included four by Starnes and three by Brian Miller (Sr. • Chippewa Falls). Aurora University (0-1) was paced by the two shots of Christian Foote.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike (Jr. • Wauwatosa) saved four shots to record his sixth career shutout. Aurora University goalkeeper Ethan Cashen saved six shots.

UW-Oshkosh plays Olivet College (Mich.) in the second of four straight home matches on Saturday (Sept. 4) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
