Titans Round Up Pioneers
The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team allowed only two shots as it recorded a 3-0 victory over 2009 NCAA Division III postseason participant Grinnell College (Iowa) on Saturday (Sept. 11) in Grinnell, Iowa.
UW-Oshkosh (4-0-1) applied steady defensive pressure throughout the match, with the end result marking the Titans' fourth shutout of the season. Grinnell College (1-2-1) was held to just one shot in each half and a total of two corner kicks.
UW-Oshkosh had 11 players attempt shots, including Tim Stadler (Jr. • Wauwatosa) who gave the Titans a 1-0 lead on an assisted goal by Devon Prideaux (Sr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.) in the 17th minute (16:28) of play.
The Titans doubled their lead when Ryan Hanna (Fr. • Verona) scored off a pass from Mike Franzen (Sr. • Sussex) in the 43rd minute (42:48).
UW-Oshkosh extended its advantage to 3-0 on Brian Miller's (Sr. • Chippewa Falls) assisted goal by Robby Giljohann (Jr. • Pewaukee) in the 79th minute (78:55).
UW-Oshkosh concluded the game with 20 shots and five corner kicks. Brandon Briones (Sr. • Menasha) and Tony Starnes (So. • Green Bay) both attempted three shots to lead the Titans, while Giljohann, Hanna, Miller, Prideaux and Stadler launched two each.
UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike (Jr. • Wauwatosa) saved one shot en route to his second shutout of the season.
Grinnell College goalkeeper Greg Fox was credited with eight saves. The Pioneers also had a defender tally a team save.
UW-Oshkosh, which has won all four of its contests against Grinnell College, visits Cornell College (Iowa) for a match on Sunday (Sept. 12).
