Late Penalty Kick Lifts Titans Past Falcons

The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team was challenged by the visiting Falcons of Concordia University-Wisconsin, but in the end, the Titans were able to take advantage of a late penalty kick, to post a 2-1 victory in a match held Monday (Sept. 21) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The win was UW-Oshkosh's seventh in the series and fifth straight overall on the 2009 season.

Fedja Korjenic (So. • Sarajevo, Bosnia) started the scoring for the night, when he would hit his fourth goal of the year, unassisted, at the 20:41 mark to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

Concordia University Wisconsin would answer; however, at the 58 minute mark when Trevor Hess punched in a goal to tie the game at 1-1. This goal was the first given up by UW-Oshkosh goalkeepers in 397 minutes and 53 seconds.

Finally, despite strong pressure from the Falcons, Will Howell (Sr. • Waunakee) would be given the opportunity for a penalty kick off of a hand ball at the 77:08 mark. Howell's shot sailed into the goal, and made the score 2-1.

UW-Oshkosh's offense was led by Brandon Briones (Jr. • Menasha) and Tim Stadler (So. • Wauwatosa) with three shots and Korjenic with two.

The Titans (6-0-1) now travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for a showdown on Friday (Sept. 25) with nationally ranked Augsburg College (Minn.).
