Metcalf-Grassman, Steckbauer Named All-WIAC

MADISON, Wis.- Michael Metcalf-Grassman and Quinn Steckbauer were both named members of the 2024 All-WIAC men's basketball team when the conference office announced the annual team on Tuesday (Feb. 27).

In his first collegiate season, Metcalf-Grassman (Fr. • Shawano/Waukesha) averaged 12.4 points per game with a 53.9 shooting percentage from the field and collected 6.0 rebounds per contest, which sat third and sixth in the league overall. He also finished the season third in conference play with 7.5 rebounds per game, fourth with both 17.1 points per game and an 81.3 free throw percentage and fifth with a 55.9 field goal percentage on his way to Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year and All-WIAC First Team. Metcalf-Grassman is now the Titans' second Newcomer of the Year and first to be named both Newcomer of the Year and All-WIAC on the same year. Levi Borchert was their first Newcomer of the Year winner of the award in 2020.

The Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete and a member of the All-Sportsmanship team, Steckbauer (Sr. • Merrill) owns a 3.76 cumulative GPA as a strength and conditioning major with a minor in psychology. He has earned a place on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in each of the previous four academic years and has made appearances on five UW-Oshkosh Honor Rolls and four UW-Oshkosh Dean's Lists. Steckbauer is a three-year team captain and received All-WIAC honorable mention recognition in 2022 and 2023. He was a member of UW-Oshkosh's team that advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship. Steckbauer helped the Titans win conference regular-season titles in 2022 and 2023, as well as tournament championships in 2020 and 2022. He averaged 9.0 points and 2.2 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per contest this season, shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 90.0 percent from the line. The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Max Sparger, who served as commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference for 22 years from 1971-93. In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, he must be in his last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years. The award is based on academic achievements, athletics accomplishments and involvement in other campus activities, organizations and community service projects.

The Titans finished the 2023-24 season with a 10-15 overall record with a 3-11 mark in league competition.
