EAU CLAIRE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team was victorious over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Feb. 3), outscoring the Blugolds 88-67 at the Zorn Arena.

The Titans (10-11, 3-7 WIAC) paced the Blugolds (8-13, 1-9 WIAC) in all three shooting categories, going a season-best 63.5 percent (33-of-52) from the field, 46.2 percent (six-of-13) from three and 80.0 percent (16-of-20) from the line. They also outrebounded Eau Claire (31-25) and scored double the amount of points in the paint (54-26).

Michael Metcalf-Grassman (Fr. • Shawano/Waukesha) scored 34 points in the contest, the most a Titan has scored all season. He shot 11-of-14 from the field, made his only three-point attempt and sunk all 11 of his free throw shots. He also pulled down five boards with a steal and a block. Carter Thomas (So. • Neenah) joined Metcalf-Grassman in double-double points with 20 of his own on seven-of-14 from the field, three-of-seven from three and three-of-three from the line. Quinn Steckbauer (Sr. • Merrill) and Nick Kraftzenk (Fr. • Kimberly) both scored nine points and Kraftzenk added an additional five rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh scored the first seven points of the game before a jump shot put the Blugolds on the board. The Titans extended their lead to as much as six points before a 14-0 run by the Blugolds switched the lead for the first of 12 times. Metcalf-Grassman scored all 11 points of Oshkosh's 11-0 spurt over three minutes of play before Tristan Johanknecht (Fr. • Oshkosh) got in on the scoring, making the score 28-24 with five minutes in the half. The Blugolds stayed close the rest of the way, even leading as late as 40 seconds, however two Metcalf-Grassman free throws switched the lead back in the Titans' behavior before the halftime buzzer sounded.

The teams traded points for the first five minutes of the second half with the score sitting at 49-45 with 14:56 remaining when a Metcalf-Grassman layup kick-started an 11-point Oshkosh scoring run that an Eau Claire timeout couldn't stop. The Blugolds got on the board for the first time in four minutes on a Nolan Blair and Carter Lichtsinn jump shots to cut the lead to 11 points with under half of the period to go, but six points from Matt Imig (So. • Ashwaubenon) and Kraftzenk pushed the deficit further in Oshkosh's favor. The teams went back to trading points for the rest of the matchup with small runs of six and seven points slowly widening the gap between them. Ethan Post (Sr • Mount Horeb) scored the final point of the game with a second remaining on a free throw, pushing the deficit over the 20-point mark.

The Titans will head back on the road on Wednesday (Feb. 7) to face UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. The Titans will look to even the season series after falling to the No. 14-ranked Pioneers 77-66 at the Kolf Sports Center on Jan. 10.
