Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Excellence Award; Five Earn Honors Court Nod

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team earned a National Basketball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award after another outstanding performance in the classroom.

As a team, the Titans compiled a 3.25 cumulative grade point average during the 2022-23 academic year to collect one of over 300 Team Academic Excellence Awards between National Collegiate Athletic Association, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and National Junior College Athletic Association programs.

The NABC has recognized men's collegiate basketball programs for its academic success since 2013. A program must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award. Each school must count the GPA of each student-athlete who represented their institution on the basketball court.

Five members of the men's basketball team surpassed a 3.2 grade point average this academic year as a junior or senior, earning NABC Honors Court honors.

Quinn Steckbauer led the Honors Court members with a 3.96 grade point average in 2022-23. He is a senior Strength and Conditioning major. Senior Eric Peterson followed with a 3.88 grade point average as a Finance and Economics major. Levi Borchert, a Finance major, finished his senior year with a 3.61 grade point average. Senior Nick Otto, a Communications major, had a 3.23 grade point average and junior Kinesiology major, Ethan Post had a 3.21 grade point average.

UW-Platteville joined the Titans as a recipient of the 2022-23 NABC Academic Team Excellence Award.

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 24-7 record during the 2022-23 season and advanced to the seventh NCAA Tournament in eight years (The 2021 tournament was cancelled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic), advancing to the Elite Eight round in Alliance, Ohio. The Titans were ranked eighth nationally in the final D3hoops.com poll.
