Titans Set for Second Round Matchup Against Blugolds

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team enters the WIAC tournament with the No. 1 seed for the second year in a row and third year in head coach Matt Lewis' tenure at the helm of the Titans. Oshkosh (20-5, 13-1 WIAC) will face No. 4 seeded UW-Eau Claire (17-9, 8-6 WIAC) in Kolf Sports Center at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 24. The Blugolds beat No. 5 seeded UW-Platteville by a score of 72-70 in Eau Claire on Monday to advance to the second round of the tournament. 

The teams split the regular season series with Oshkosh's only conference loss coming in Eau Claire on Wednesday, January 4 by a score of 51-48. When the Blugolds came to Oshkosh on Wednesday, February 1, the Titans won, 74-63.

Previewing the Titans

The Titans have held opponents to a league low and 15th lowest in the nation average of 62.2 points per game, allowing a 42.3 shooting percentage from the field and a 33.5 shooting percentage from three. They score an average of 72.5 points per game. Oshkosh has allowed only 30.6 combined opponent rebounds per game, also a WIAC best. Senior forward Levi Borchert has recorded 264 combined rebounds, a league-leading number that also ranks 17th nationally, averaging 10.6 per game. He also leads in each individual rebounding category and ranks fifth with 865 points. Senior guard Eric Peterson leads the league in steals with 43, averaging 1.7 per game and senior guard Hunter Plamann ranks third with 60 made three-pointers and a 44.8 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Senior guard Quinn Steckbauer sits at second with an 85.9 shooting percentage from the line. Plamann and sophomore forward Jonah Rindfleisch rank fourth and third with 67 assists and 28 blocks, respectively.

Previewing the Blugolds

The Blugolds have held their opponents to 67.1 points and scored 74.6, both sitting third in the league. They have made 214 attempts from behind the arc for a league best, averaging 8.6 three per game. 91 blocked shots by Blugolds sits second with an average of 3.64 per game. Senior forward Brock Voigt ranks third in the league with 405 points, and second with both 160 made field goals and 16.9 points per game. He sits behind Borchert with 178 combined rebounds, averaging 7.4 per game and leads with 47 blocks. Junior guard Michael Casper leads the league with 68 made threes, going 41.2 percent from three so far this year.
