Four Titans Score Double Digits as Oshkosh Defeats Whitewater

OSHKOSH, Wis- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team handed UW-Whitewater their first road loss of the year on Wednesday night. Wednesday was also Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, the first of three days this week honoring the faculty & staff on campus. Thursday night's wrestling meet at 7 p.m. against UW-Platteville and Swim & Dive's meet at 5 p.m. on Friday against UW-Stevens Point are the following two events for Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week.

First Half Summary

The Titans scored early to take a 4-0 lead, but the Warhawks closed the gap just as quick. Neither team scored more than five points in a row the rest of the way, but Oshkosh slowly built up a six-point lead by the end of the half, leading 41-35. 

First Half Leaders

Oshkosh shot 48.4 percent (15-of-31) from the field, 46.2 percent (six-of-13) from three and 83.3 percent (five-of-six) from the line. Junior guard Hunter Plamann led all scorers with 16 points, going five-of-eight from the field, three-of-six from three and three-of-three from the line himself. Senior forward Levi Borchert led with four rebounds. 

Whitewater shot 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from the field, 40.0 percent (four-of-10) from three and 75.0 percent (three-of-four) from the line. Miles Barnstable paced the Warhawks with 13 points, going four-of-seven from the field, three-of-four from three and two-of-two from the line. Four Warhawks recorded three rebounds.

Second Half Leaders

Borchert opened scoring 12 seconds into the second half with a layup. Eric Peterson started an 8-0 run a few minutes later that put the Titans up 51-37 with 16:28 left in the game. The next run was also authored by Oshkosh, with the team scoring 10 in-a-row. Freshman guard Carter Thomas led the charge, recording six of the 10 points, with two threes. By the end of the run, the Titans led 70-48 with seven and a half minutes to play. Neither team could string together a run the rest of the way. Oshkosh ended the game with a 19-point, 80-61 lead.

Full Game Leaders

Oshkosh shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field, 50.0 percent (13-of-26) from three and 75.0 percent (nine-of-12) from the line. Plamann ended the game with 22 points, going seven-of-12 from the field, five-of-nine from three and three-of-three from the line. Starters Borchert (14) and senior guard Quinn Steckbauer (13) also surpassed 10 points. Thomas led the bench with 10 points, setting a season-high in points, going three-of-three from both the field and three and one-of-two from the line. Borchert recorded nine rebounds (two offensive). Plamann and Peterson each recorded three steals. Peterson led with four steals. Oshkosh improved their record to 11-5 (4-1 WIAC). They have also won all six of their home games this season.

Whitewater shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the field, 46.2 (six-of-13) from three and 83.3 percent (five-of-six) from the line. Trevon Chislom led the Warhawks with 16 points, going seven-of-14 from the field and two-of-two from the line. He also led with seven rebounds (three offensive). Barnstable was the only other Warhawk with at least 10 points, scoring 13. Whitewater fell to a record of 11-5 (2-3 WIAC) with the loss.

The Titans return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 on the road to take on No. 15 nationally ranked UW-La Crosse.
