Borchert Named To Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List

UW-Oshkosh junior forward Levi Borchert has been selected to the Top 100 Watch List for the 2022 Bevo Francis Award.

The Bevo Francis Award is presented annually to the men's basketball player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball. Considerations revolve around season statistics, individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements.

The 2022 Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List is comprised of top players from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Borchert, who was selected to the 2021-22 D3hoops.com Preseason All-America Third Team, leads the Titans with 18.3 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game this season while shooting a team-best 61.9 percent (117-189) from the field.

Borchert currently paces the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in rebounding while ranking fourth in the league in points per game, fifth in field goal percentage and 10th in steals per contest. Nationally, Borchert ranks 19th in double-doubles (8), 24th in field goal percentage and 36th in rebounds per game.

Borchert has helped fifth-ranked UW-Oshkosh to a 14-2 record this season by scoring in double figures on 15 occasions. He scored a career-high 25 points with seven rebounds during the Titans' 91-67 win over North Central College (Ill.) on Dec. 11 and tied a career best with 25 points and eight rebounds in UW-Oshkosh's 80-70 victory over UW-River Falls on Jan. 8. Borchert also had 18 points and a career-high tying 18 rebounds during the Titans' 73-54 triumph over St. Norbert College on Dec. 21.

The Kimberly High School graduate was named a 2020-21 D3hoops.com Third Team All-American and All-WIAC First Team selection after averaging 14.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting a league-leading 66.7 percent from the field to help lead the Titans to a 5-2 record during an abbreviated schedule due to the novel coronavirus pandemic that also canceled last year's Division III Championship.

Borchert, the 2019-20 WIAC Newcomer of the Year, has averaged 12.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 63.9 percent from the floor and producing 16 double-doubles in 52 career games during his two-plus seasons at UW-Oshkosh.

The Titans' run of five straight trips to the Division III postseason is the longest active streak in the WIAC and the fourth longest in league history. UW-Oshkosh, the 2019 national champion and 2018 runner-up, reached the second round of the NCAA Championship in 2020.

This marks the sixth year in which the Bevo Francis Award will be presented. The Top 100 list will be narrowed down to 50 players on February 15 and the Top 25 players will be announced on March 15. Finalists for the award will be unveiled April 2 with the winner being crowned on April 4.

Borchert, UW-Platteville senior guard Quentin Shields and UW-Stout sophomore guard Lovell Williams are the only three WIAC players on the 2022 Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List.
