Men’s Basketball Program Earns Team Academic Excellence Award

Another outstanding performance in the classroom earned the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball program a Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the second straight year.

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 3.265 cumulative grade-point average during the 2020-21 school year to collect one of the 257 Team Academic Excellence Awards that were presented to National Collegiate Athletic Association, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and National Junior College Athletic Association programs.

The NABC has recognized men's collegiate basketball programs for its academic success since 2013. A program must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award. Each school must count the GPA of each student-athlete who represented their institution on the basketball court.

UW-Oshkosh, which also earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award in 2015, had 11 of its 16 men's basketball players surpass a 3.0 GPA this past academic year. Eric Peterson led the Titans with a 3.897 GPA while Sam Fredrickson followed at 3.743, JT Petrie at 3.728, Tommy Borta and Hart Holmgren at 3.667 and Quinn Steckbauer at 3.60.

The WIAC had four of its eight men's basketball programs receive the 2020-21 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 5-2 record during an abbreviated 2021 season and ranked 12th nationally in the final D3hoops.com poll.

UW-Oshkosh, the 2019 national champion and 2018 runner-up, had made five consecutive trips to the Division III postseason before the 2021 tournament was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
