Lewis Named DIII News National Coach Of The Year

Matt Lewis has been named NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Coach of the Year by SNA Sports/D III News after leading UW-Oshkosh to its first national title Saturday (March 16).

Lewis and the Titans defeated Swarthmore College (Pa.), 96-82, in the final game of the Division III Championship at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Lewis guided UW-Oshkosh to a 29-3 record and the first national championship in the 121-year history of the program during his first season at the helm of the Titans.

Lewis, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, was also previously tabbed D3hoops.com's Division III Coach of the Year and Central Region Coach of the Year.

Lewis was named interim head coach at UW-Oshkosh in May 2018 after former Titans head coach Pat Juckem accepted the lead position at Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.).

"Matt did a tremendous job in his first season as a head coach and capped the campaign with a national title," DIII News editor and publisher Gary Rubin said. "This award dates back to 1994 and he puts his name among a long list of distinguished winners. Along with SNA Sports, we are pleased to recognize him for his achievement and hard work."
