Boots, Noone Named To All-WIAC Basketball First Team

UW-Oshkosh guards Charlie Noone and Ben Boots were selected to the 10-member All-WIAC Men's Basketball First Team.

Noone, a junior, was an honorable mention pick last season, while Boots, a sophomore, received his first all-league honor.

Senior guard Taylor Jansen completed the Titans' league accolades by being named to the five-member All-WIAC Defensive Team.

The starting backcourt trio has led UW-Oshkosh to a 17-10 record, including a second-place 9-5 mark in the WIAC standings.

Noone leads the WIAC with 78 3-pointers and paces the team with 13.6 points per game. He is shooting 47 percent (119-253) from the field, including the league's fifth-best 3-point rate at 42.6 percent (78-183).

Noone has knocked down 89.5 percent (51-57) of his free throw attempts this season while listing third on the team with 43 assists.

Noone has led UW-Oshkosh in scoring 13 times this season and tallied double-digit points in 19 contests. He made seven 3-pointers en route to scoring a career-high 24 points against UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 1. Noone also established a career high with eight 3-point baskets on the way to 23 points against UW-Stout on Feb. 18.

For his career, Noone is averaging 9.7 points on 45.7 percent (247-540) shooting from the floor in 81 games, including 52 as a starter. He has also converted 126 of 149 (84.6 percent) free throws and collected 194 rebounds.

Boots trails only Noone in the WIAC with 64 3-pointers on 161 attempts (39.8 percent) while his 85.3 percent (87-102) free throw shooting also ranks second in the league.

Boots, averaging 13.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest, lists fourth in the WIAC with a team-high 79 assists and sixth in the league with 30 steals.

Boots, the Titans' leading scorer in nine games this season, converted eight 3-point shots and poured in a career-high 31 points against Wartburg College (Iowa) on Nov. 19. He also scored 28 points on 10 of 14 shooting from the field during the season opener against Iowa Wesleyan University on Nov. 18.

During his career, Boots is averaging 11.7 points per game on 43.1 percent (185-429) shooting from the field, including 38.3 percent (103-269) from 3-point range, and 84.9 percent (169-199) from the free throw line. He has also totaled 164 rebounds, 133 assists and 53 steals in 55 games, including 26 as a starter.

Jansen is averaging seven points per contest on 43 percent (61-142) shooting from the field and an .806 (54-67) rate at the foul line to go along with 2.9 rebounds and one assist per game. He scored a career-best 17 points against St. Norbert College on Dec. 20.

Jansen's career totals include 509 points, 244 rebounds, 71 assists and 53 steals in 102 games, including 55 as a starter.

Joining Boots and Noone on the All-WIAC First Team were UW-Eau Claire's George Diekelman and Josh Weix, UW-La Crosse's Zach Schradle, UW-Platteville's Robert Duax, UW-River Falls' Alex Herink and Garret Pearson, UW-Stevens Point's Ethan Bublitz, and UW-Whitewater's Chris Jones.

Herink was named WIAC Player of the Year, and Jeff Berkhof from UW-River Falls was selected Coach of the Year.

UW-River Falls earned the WIAC title with a 12-2 record, while UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater tied for second place with their 9-5 marks.

Completing the league standings were fourth-place UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point with 8-6 records, sixth-place UW-La Crosse at 5-9, seventh-place UW-Stout at 4-10 and eighth-place UW-Platteville at 1-13.

Top-seeded UW-River Falls defeated second-seeded UW-Oshkosh, 60-59, in the WIAC Championship final to clinch the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.

UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater received at-large berths to the 64-team national tournament that begins on Friday (March 3).

The Titans, making their second straight and seventh overall NCAA postseason trip, open this year's Division III Championship at Hope College (Mich.) on Friday.
