Titans Thrash Blue Devils

Alex Olson poured in a season-high 27 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to propel the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team to a 67-42 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday (Jan. 23) in Kolf Sports Center.

Olson accounted for the Titans' first 14 points and finished the game shooting 10 of 12 from the field, including 6 of 8 from 3-point range. He surpassed the 1,000th-point plateau on a 3-pointer just 63 seconds into the game and concluded the contest with 1,026.

Olson, who outscored the Blue Devils, 14-2, during the first 4:38 of the game, tallied his most points in a game since scoring 30 against UW-Stout last season.

UW-Oshkosh (11-6, 4-2 WIAC) ended the game shooting 44.8 percent (26-58) from the floor, including 31.2 percent (10-32) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Titans, who established a season-high for 3-point attempts, made double-digit 3-pointers for the fifth time this season.

The Titans never trailed and finished the game with advantages in rebounds (41-35), assists (10-6), turnovers (15-12), blocks (6-2) and steals (11-7).

Ben Boots added 11 points and four rebounds for UW-Oshkosh, while Nick Olson had a game-high eight boards.

UW-Stout (4-12, 0-6 WIAC), which lost its 26th consecutive league game, was limited to just 17.2 percent (5-29) shooting from the floor during the opening half and concluded the contest at 31.5 (17-54).

UW-Oshkosh extended its lead to 28-7 behind 20 points from Alex Olson with eight minutes to go in the first period. The Titans upped their advantage to 37-12 at intermission as they held their opponent to 15 points or fewer in a half for the fourth time since 2005.

The Titans enjoyed their largest lead of 28 points after a layup by Ezeka Omeke made the score 53-25 with 12:04 remaining. UW-Oshkosh maintained a lead of 19 or more points for the final 24:42 of the contest.

The Blue Devils scored nine unanswered points to trim their deficit to 53-34 with 7:15 left, but they committed three straight turnovers during a one-minute stretch and allowed UW-Oshkosh to push its lead back to 64-38 with 4:20 to play.

UW-Stout outshot UW-Oshkosh, 48 percent (12-25) to 40.6 percent (13-32), from the field in the second half as both teams scored 30 points in the final period.

John Keefe led the Blue Devils with 10 points, while Isaac Elliott added nine off the bench.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (Jan. 27).
