Red Men In Control During Home Win Over Titans

Donte Logan scored a career-high 21 points to lead Carthage College past the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team, 80-63, on Saturday (Nov. 30) in Kenosha.

In their first meeting since 1996, the Red Men (3-1) led by double digits most of the night. Carthage went up by 15 points midway through the first half. The Titans (1-3) pulled within five early in the second period, but Reese Herth buried a pair of three-pointers to put the game out of reach.

Logan finished with 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 6-for-6 accuracy at the foul line. Marlon Senior added 16 points for Carthage, which shot 54 percent overall (28-52).

Three minutes into the contest, Kevin Sykes Jr. sank two free throws to give the Red Men a 4-2 advantage. Senior and Logan followed with connections from behind the arc to gain a 14-6 cushion.

Another triple, this time by Sean Valentine, made it a 23-8 score with 9:23 on the clock. UW-Oshkosh (1-3) began to claw back with a three-ball from Jade Royston and a put-back from Andre Wallace. Carthage took a 37-27 lead to halftime.

Kyle Bolger knocked down a jumper during the second period as the Titans came to life. After a Royston three-pointer, Max Schebel got to the hoop for two lay-ups that made it a 41-36 ballgame.

Herth drained triples 68 seconds apart to stretch the margin to 53-43 with 13:54 remaining. Carthage then sealed the result with 10 unanswered points, including five by Senior, to go ahead 67-47.

The closest UW-Oshkosh got for the final 10 minutes was a 69-56 deficit after Alex Olson's inside bucket. Logan hit all six of his free throws during the final 1:30.

Royston led the Titans with 20 points, while Bolger tallied 13 and Olson 11. The Titans compiled 45 percent (26-58) shooting from the field, 22 percent (4-18) from long range and 64 percent at the charity stripe (7-11).

Carthage excelled in the rebounding battle, taking a 36-25 victory. Senior and Sykes each grabbed a game-high seven boards. The Red Men converted 7-of-17 three-point tries (41 percent) and 17-of-25 free throws (68 percent).
