Worsell Named Football Offensive Coordinator

Rich Worsell, who owns 19 years of NCAA coaching experience, has been named the UW-Oshkosh football program's new offensive coordinator, head coach Peter Jennings announced Monday (June 20).

Worsell comes to UW-Oshkosh from Division I University of Akron (Ohio), where he served as the director of football research and analytics the past three seasons and the Zips' tight ends coach in 2020 and 2021. Worsell performed statistical analysis on every Akron opponent from 2019-21 and created customized scouting reports to each team and their different philosophies.

"Having the opportunity to hire Rich is a game changer," Jennings said. "He has won a lot of games in the Midwest, on the West Coast, and across the pond. Rich has an abundant of experiences to draw from and is a person who owns a great offensive mind, constantly wants to learn, and genuinely cares for his student-athletes. Rich can help our program in a ton of ways, and we are extremely blessed to have him and his wife, Laura, join Titan Nation!"

Prior to his tenure at Akron, Worsell was the offensive coordinator and assistant head football coach at Division III University of La Verne (Calif.) from 2011-2018.

Worsell turned La Verne into a national offensive juggernaut and was instrumental in helping the Leopards capture the 2015 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and the school's first Division III postseason appearance since 1984.

The 2015 Leopards went 7-0 in SCIAC play while boasting one of the best offenses in the nation. La Verne ranked 18th nationally in rushing offense (255.1), 41st in scoring (37.0) and 45th in total offense (444.1). The Leopards also committed the 17th fewest turnovers (12) in the country.

Worsell previously served as the offensive coordinator at Division III Illinois College from 2008-10, pass game coordinator at Division III Millikin University (Ill.) from 2005-07 and a graduate assistant wide receivers coach at Division III Lakeland University (Wis.) from 2003-04. Illinois College set 14 school and five Midwest Conference records during Worsell's first season with the program.

Worsell, who was born and raised in England, is a 2002 graduate of Aberystwyth University, where he served as the school's head football coach from 1999-2001. Worsell was the head football coach for the Sussex Thunder in 2002 before landing a coaching internship with the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe in 2003.

Worsell, a published author who has spoken at numerous football clinics, received his master's degree from Lakeland University in 2005.

Worsell replaces Luke Venne as the Titans' offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Venne left the UW-Oshkosh program in April to become the head football coach at UW-Stevens Point.
