
Titans Place 12 Players On All-WIAC Football Team
Linebacker Tory Jandrin, strong safety Kyle Scharenbroch, and offensive linemen Mike Olsen and Hunter Schultz were each named to the First Team to highlight UW-Oshkosh's 12 selections to the 2021 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Team.
Olsen, a senior center, was a repeat pick to the All-WIAC First Team while senior guard Schultz, and juniors Jandrin and Scharenbroch each garnered all-league accolades for the first time.
UW-Oshkosh's All-WIAC Second Team selections were senior tight end Justin Kasuboski, junior defensive end Brandon Kolgen and senior defensive tackle Trenton LaCombe. Kasuboski was named to the 2019 All-WIAC First Team. Both Kolgen and LaCombe also received All-WIAC Second Team accolades in 2019.
The five Titans tabbed to the All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team were sophomore quarterback Kobe Berghammer, senior defensive end Brandon Hughes, sophomore running back Peter MacCudden, freshman free safety Carson Raddatz and sophomore wide receiver Tony Steger.
Hughes was an honorable mention All-WIAC pick in 2019. Berghammer, the 2019 WIAC Newcomer of the Year, earned his first all-league recognition along with MacCudden, Raddatz and Steger.
Senior linebacker Mike Kremer represented UW-Oshkosh on the eight member WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
WIAC regular season champion UW-Whitewater nearly swept the conference's major awards as Warhawks quarterback Max Meylor was named Player of the Year, defensive lineman Mackenzie Balanganayi the Defensive Player of the Year, defensive back Kyle Koelblinger the Newcomer of the Year and head coach Kevin Bullis Co-Coach of the Year. Bullis shared Coach of the Year laurels with UW-River Falls' Matt Walker. Rounding out the WIAC major award winners was UW-La Crosse wide receiver Jake Simuncak, who was voted Special Teams Player of the Year.
Olsen and Schultz, who both started all nine games this season, anchored a UW-Oshkosh offensive line that yielded just 21 tackles for loss and nine sacks while helping lead the way for the Titans to average 5.6 yards per carry and score 19 rushing touchdowns. The Titans concluded the regular season ranked second in the NCAA Division III with 2.50 tackles for loss allowed per game and eighth nationally by committing just 35 penalties on the year.
Behind Olsen, Schultz and the rest of the offensive line, UW-Oshkosh racked up at least 183 rushing yards on six occasions on the year, gaining a season best 381 yards on the ground during a 43-36 victory at UW-Stout on Oct. 30 and scoring a season high five rushing touchdowns in a 49-17 home rout over UW-Stevens Point on Nov. 6.
Jandrin and Scharenbroch were second and third on the team with 65 and 60 tackles, respectively, this season. Jandrin had 6.5 tackles for loss, including 2.5 sacks, and made a season high 17 stops during the season finale against UW-River Falls on Nov. 13. Scharenbroch collected five tackles for loss to go along with one interception and one fumble recovery. Scharenbroch notched a season best 12 tackles against both UW-Platteville in a 35-32 win Oct. 2 and again during the season finale against UW-River Falls, when he also intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.
Kasuboski hauled in 25 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns to establish career highs in all three statistical categories. Kasuboski scored a pair of touchdowns during the Titans' 28-10 victory at NCAA Division II member Northern Michigan University on Sept. 11 before recording a season high four catches and a score against both UW-Whitewater on Oct. 16 and UW-Stout on Oct. 30.
Kolgen led the WIAC with 6.5 sacks and ranked third in the league with 11.5 tackles for loss while LaCombe chipped in 16 tackles on the year. Kolgen registered a season high seven tackles, including 2.5 sacks, in UW-Oshkosh's win at UW-Stout on Oct. 30. LaCombe, who made a season high five tackles against UW-River Falls on Nov. 13, had a sack among his three stops at Northern Michigan University on Sept. 11.
Berghammer completed 132 of 224 passes for 1,860 yards with 21 touchdowns and four interceptions while also leading UW-Oshkosh with 68 carries for 467 yards and another five scores on the ground. Berghammer, who leads the WIAC with 14.1 yards per completion, passed for a season high 316 yards and five touchdowns against UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 23. He also threw for 240 yards with four touchdowns and rushed 13 times for 189 yards and another score at UW-Stout on Oct. 30.
Steger was Berghammer's top receiving target this season, collecting 28 catches for 619 yards and six touchdowns. Steger, whose 22.1 yards per reception led the WIAC, made a season high four grabs on four occasions this year. Steger scored at least one touchdown during each of UW-Oshkosh's final four contests, recording a pair of scores and matching a season best with 113 receiving yards against UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 23.
MacCudden logged 67 carries for 407 yards and a pair of touchdowns in eight games for the Titans. MacCudden, who chipped in eight receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns, rushed a season high 13 times for 96 yards and a score while adding another touchdown through the air at UW-Platteville on Oct. 2.
Raddatz was the leading tackler for the Titans, registering 90 stops and one interception this season, while Hughes paced the UW-Oshkosh defensive line with 35 tackles. Raddatz had at least 11 tackles in five games on the year, including a season high 17 against UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 23 and 16 during the season finale against UW-River Falls on Nov. 13. Hughes made a season best eight stops versus UW-River Falls.
UW-Oshkosh concluded the 2021 campaign with a 6-3 record, including a 4-3 mark in league play to finish fourth in the WIAC standings and extend the program record to 10 consecutive winning seasons. The Titans have now placed fourth or higher in the WIAC 11 straight seasons under head coach Pat Cerroni, clinching league titles in 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2019. UW-Oshkosh went on to reach the national championship game in 2016, the semifinals in both 2012 and 2017, and the quarterfinals in 2015.
