Haag, Olsen Selected To Preseason Poll

Haag, Olsen Selected To Preseason Poll

Another preseason poll has come out. The UW-Oshkosh Titans enters the 2020 season ranked no. 15 in the Lindy's Sports NCAA Division III football poll. Kicker Jaydon Haag was selected to the All-Division III Offense - Second Team. Center Mike Olsen was placed on the Offense – First Team.

In 2019, UW-Oshkosh captured a share of the WIAC title and a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship this past fall despite the program being projected to finish third in the conference standings in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Head coach Pat Cerroni guided the Titans to an 8-3 record, including a 6-1 conference mark that earned UW-Oshkosh a portion of the league title with UW-Whitewater.

A junior, Haag became the first Titan named to the AP Division III All-America Team and fifth AP All-American in program history. The WIAC Special Teams Player of the Year in 2019, Haag was also tabbed a Second Team All-American by D3football.com.

Haag led UW-Oshkosh with 63 points this past fall, converting each of his 12 field goal attempts and 27 of 30 extra points. He was one of two NCAA Division III kickers to finish the season with a 1.000 field goal percentage.

Haag made a pair of field goals after taking over UW-Oshkosh's field goal kicking duties during a 26-23 win over UW-Stout on Oct. 5, including the game-winner from 42 yards with 8:49 left in the game. He also made two field goals against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 12, UW-River Falls on Nov. 9 and UW-Whitewater on Nov. 16. He had three field goals longer than 40 yards, including a season-best 49-yarder that capped the scoring in the Titans' 27-20 upset win over third-ranked UW-Whitewater.

Haag went 6-for-6 on extra points against Huntingdon College (Ala.) on Sept. 21 and hit each his four point-after attempts versus both UW-River Falls and Central College (Iowa) on Nov. 23. Haag's 10 points against UW-River Falls were a season high.

Tabbed a D3football.com All-American last season, Olsen anchored a UW-Oshkosh offensive line that led the WIAC with 14 sacks allowed and 4.7 yards per rushing attempt. Olsen and the Titan offensive line paved the way for UW-Oshkosh to rank second in the conference with 2,027 rushing yards and 184.3 yards on the ground per game.

Olsen and the Titan offense averaged 26.5 points and 350 yards per contest while playing a pivotal role in UW-Oshkosh's WIAC-leading 5.27 penalties committed and 43.91 penalty yards per game.

Last week the Titans ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III Preseason Top 25 in the 2020 edition of the Street & Smith's College Football Yearbook, while Olsen was selected as a Preseason All-American by the publication.
