Five Titans To Play In Dream Bowl

Five players will represent the UW-Oshkosh football program at the inaugural Dream Bowl on Monday (Jan. 21) in Salem, Va. The all-star contest features several of the top senior NCAA Division III and NAIA players from this past season.

Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. (EST) at Salem Stadium, the site of the past 20 NCAA Division III national championship games. Fans can watch the Dream Bowl by going to http://www.ustream.tv/channel/star-cast-productions.

Titans in the game are cornerback Tim Filter (New Berlin), linebacker Taylor Goodman (South Wayne), tackle Brandon Peter (Allenton), defensive tackle Nathan Smith (Oakfield) and center Ben Strehlow (Brandon).

The five Titans will play for a team called the Patriots. William Paterson University (N.J.) head coach Jerry Flora will guide the squad. Jordan Neal, the offensive coordinator at Hendrix College (Ark.), will coach the Crusaders.

Filter earned All-America recognition after leading the country with eight interceptions. He also totaled 44 tackles (35 solo), seven pass breakups and one forced fumble.

Peter and Strehlow received All-America honors as part of an offense that rushed for 240 yards per game. The Titans ranked 14th nationally by scoring 37.5 points per contest. UW-Oshkosh ran for 250+ yards five times, including 442 against UW-Eau Claire and 413 against The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.).

Goodman collected All-America status after leading the Titans with 109 tackles (57 solo). He topped the WIAC with three forced fumbles while ranking third with 6.5 sacks.

Smith, an All-WIAC selection, compiled 53 tackles (37 solo). He tallied eight tackles for loss, including 2.5 sacks. In UW-Oshkosh's postseason overtime victory at Linfield College (Ore.), Smith blocked a field goal at the end of regulation. The Titans went on to win the contest, 31-24.

UW-Oshkosh finished the season with a 13-1 record. The Titans' only loss was a 28-14 setback to the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship.
