O’Grady Selected National Coordinator Of The Year

UW-Oshkosh assistant head football coach John O'Grady has been named the 2012 NCAA Division III Coordinator of the Year by FootballScoop.

Working with pass-game coordinator Craig Smith and run-game coordinator Luke Venne, O'Grady helped direct an offense that averaged 37.5 points per game. The Titans scored 40-plus points in six games on their way to a 13-1 record. UW-Oshkosh won the WIAC championship and reached the semifinals during its first NCAA postseason berth.

O'Grady helped the Titans with their no-huddle scheme and triple option plays. UW-Oshkosh rushed for 3,363 yards, the fifth-highest total in WIAC history. The Titans eclipsed 600 total yards in five contests while averaging 240 rushing and 240 passing yards per game. UW-Oshkosh scored 70 touchdowns and 525 points while committing just 14 turnovers.

Four players from the Titans' offensive unit were named D3football.com All-Americans. Quarterback Nate Wara (Sr. • Oshkosh) earned Offensive Player of the Year, while running back Cole Myhra (Jr. • Menomonee Falls), tackle Brandon Peter (Sr. • Allenton) and center Ben Strehlow (Sr. • Brandon) also made the squad.

Receiver Caleb Voss (Jr. • Van Dyne) received All-Region First Team honors after posting a school-record 1,333 receiving yards. Wara set school marks with 4,051 yards and 40 touchdowns total, while Myhra reached the end zone 19 times.

This was O'Grady's second season with the Titans after spending the previous 22 years as the head football coach for UW-River Falls. O'Grady also served as assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin, Kent State University (Ohio) and Miami University (Ohio).

This year's other NCAA Division III award finalists were Vince Kehres of the University of Mount Union (Ohio), Jeff Moore of Framingham State University (Mass.) and Jeff Shinn of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas). O'Grady will be recognized at the American Football Coaches Association Convention in January.

Previous winners of this award are Wallie Kuchinski of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) in 2011, Kehres in 2010, Jim Zebrowski of UW-Whitewater in 2009 and Glen Fowles of Willamette University (Ore.) in 2008.
