Titans Place Two Members On WIAC All-Centennial Team

Former UW-Oshkosh running back Andy Moriarty and defensive tackle Claire Rasmussen were chosen for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (WIAC) All-Time Football Team. The league named 53 standout players as part of its centennial anniversary celebration.

Moriarty (2003-07) is the Titans' all-time leading scorer and rusher. He earned all-conference honors three times and was a NCAA Division III All-Region First Team pick during 2007. For his career, Moriarty totaled 4,496 rushing yards to rank third in WIAC history. His 262 points and 43 touchdowns remain UW-Oshkosh standards.

In his senior season (2007), Moriarty averaged 169 rushing yards to rank second in the country. He compiled 1,690 yards on the ground, 243 yards receiving and 17 scores. The Titans posted a 7-3 record, as Moriarty ran for 214-plus yards in each of the final three victories. Moriarty holds the school record with 316 rushing yards in a 2005 game against UW-Eau Claire.

Rasmussen (1966-69) is the only Titan to be named All-WIAC four years. UW-Oshkosh had a winning record each of his last three seasons, including an 8-2 mark and league championship during 1968. Rasmussen, one of two Titans ever selected in the NFL Draft, was picked by the Houston Oilers in 1970.

UW-Whitewater led the way with 18 members on the All-Time Team. The Warhawks chosen were Brent Allen, Bill Barwick, Justin Beaver, Levell Coppage, Al Equi, Justin Jacobs, Spencer Johnson, Ryan Kleppe, Derrick LeVake, Mike Miller, A.J. Raebel, Jace Rindahl, Aaron Rusch, Max Sakellaris, Jeff Schebler, Derek Stanley, Jim Walters and Matt Weber.

UW-La Crosse placed 10 players on the squad with Willie Berzinski, Jim Byrne, Eric Halverson, Craig Kusick, Mike Maslowski, Tom Newberry, Ted Pretasky, Bill Schroeder, John Stanek and Joel Williams.

Eight of the selections came from UW-Stevens Point, while six belonged to UW-Eau Claire. The Pointers honored were Kirk Baumgartner, Chuck Braun, Reed Giordana, Jared Jenkins, Scott Krause, Clint Kriewaldt, Barry Rose and Randy Simpson. Joining them on the team were UW-Eau Claire's Wil Beech, Mike March, Darrell Souhrada, Jim VanGordon, Roger Vann and Lee Weigel.

The WIAC is recognizing the outstanding individuals from the league's 100-year history. All-time teams are being selected in those men's and women's sports that have been classified as "championship" sports at some point since 1913. Additional teams will be released on a weekly basis throughout much of the 2011-12 academic year.

All-time team members will receive certificates from the conference and it is hoped that most, if not all, of the recipients will be in attendance or represented at the WIAC Centennial Banquet in Madison on Aug. 4, 2012.
