High School Seniors Gather For All-Star Football Games

The state's premier high school football players from the 2011 season take the field one last time as the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh hosts the 36th Annual Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Classic on Saturday (July 14) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

A pair of games will showcase graduated seniors from all seven divisions. At noon, players from Divisions 4-7 of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) will kick off the All-Star festivities. Players from Divisions 1-3 will battle in the nightcap at 5 p.m.

Head coaches in the Division 4-7 game are Jason Sargent of Clear Lake for the North and Doug Miller of Waterloo for the South. The Division 1-3 leaders are Paul Nievinski of Mosinee for the North and Jed Kennedy of Kenosha Bradford for the South.

The Division 1-3 South team features five players who were members of a state championship squad last season. Division 1 champion Kenosha Bradford is represented by defensive lineman Kevon Clunis and linebacker Quanzell Murphy, while Division 2 winner Waunakee is represented by linebacker Max Chamberlin, running back/defensive back Leo Musso and kicker Jack Russell. Division 3 champion West De Pere placed quarterback Jay Tollefson on the North squad.

There are six players from state championship squads on the Division 4-7 North team. Division 4 Wrightstown had linebacker Jackson Fox, quarterback Jordan Johnson and offensive lineman Tyler Schmidt selected. They are joined by offensive lineman Alex Jorgenson and defensive end Taylor Kalep from Division 5 champion Colby and linebacker Hayden Hinker from Division 7 champion Greenwood. Division 6 champion St. Mary's Springs Academy is represented on the South team with defensive ends Giovanni Anderson and Eric Sutton.

All four teams began practicing earlier this week, with the North squads honing their skills at UW-Oshkosh and the South teams working out at UW-Whitewater.

The Wisconsin High School Football All-Star Classic is being held in Oshkosh for the 31st time. The contest was held at Madison's Camp Randall Stadium from 1999 to 2002 and Menasha's Calder Stadium in 2004.
