Titans Make First Trip To Tennessee

UW-Oshkosh takes on its only National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) opponent of the season when it makes its Tennessee debut against Lambuth University on Saturday (Oct. 16) in Jackson.

The Eagles (2-3) were shut out in their previous two games before having a bye this last week. Lambuth University began the season ranked in the top 10 of the NAIA, and it posted a 23-14 victory over NCAA Division I Georgia State University on Sept. 11. The following game, the Eagles notched a 14-13 win against West Alabama University. The University of North Alabama topped the Eagles, 31-0, as did Harding University (Ark.), 27-0.

Marquis Williams is the offensive leader, running for 358 yards with an average of 6.5 per carry. The Eagles' passing game flows through David Ingram, who owns 508 yards along with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Rod Jefferson has been the main target, grabbing 29 receptions for 247 yards and three scores. On the defensive side, Jordan Jackson boasts three interceptions and Jamie Payton a team-high 40 tackles.

Last Saturday (Oct. 9) was the first time in six games that the Titans (2-3) didn't register at least 24 points. UW-Oshkosh took its lone WIAC defeat by a 41-17 count at UW-Stevens Point. Getting off to a fast start, the Titans turned a pair of takeaways into a 14-0 lead. The Pointers then forced four turnovers to swing the momentum and prevail. Prior to that setback, UW-Oshkosh won two straight by outscoring UW-River Falls and UW-La Crosse by a 71-32 margin.

Quarterback Nate Wara (So. • Oshkosh) has led the Titans on both the ground (295 yards) and through the air (1,021 yards). He owns 12 passing touchdowns and two rushing scores while completing 66 percent of his passes. Charlie Weissman (Jr. • Colgate) is the top tailback with 214 rushing yards, in addition to his 166 yards receiving. Garrie Fox (Jr. • Madison) paces UW-Oshkosh with 22 catches for 319 yards and four touchdowns. Both Frank Martin (Jr. • Greenleaf) and Jack Breese (Jr. • Kewaskum) have recorded more than 30 stops for the defense.

This is the first meeting between the two schools. Kickoff at L.L. Fonville Field is set for 1 p.m. (CDT).
