Titans Hit The Road to Challenge Nationally Ranked Pointers

Facing its fourth nationally ranked football team in the past six games, UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday (Nov. 1) for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Pointers, who defeated second-ranked UW-Whitewater last Saturday (Oct. 25), enter the contest ranked 17th in the NCAA Division III by D3football.com.

UW-Stevens Point sits one-half game back of the Warhawks in the WIAC standings with a 3-1 conference record and a 6-1 mark overall. In last Saturday''s showdown, Jared Jenkins pulled in a 10-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds to play. Jenkins also caught the ensuing two-point conversion to give UW-Stevens Point a 17-16 victory. The Pointers own a three-game winning streak after dropping the league opener to UW-River Falls, 36-30.

UW-Oshkosh (3-3/1-3 WIAC) has thrived in close games, with its three victories coming by a combined four points. Steve Levonowich (Jr. • Kenosha) heads the running game with 96 carries for 325 yards, as well as owning a team-high 16 pass receptions for 91 yards. At the quarterback position, Dieter Juedes (Sr. • Sheboygan Falls) has completed 12-of-40 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown. Charlie Weissman (Fr. • Colgate) tops all UW-Oshkosh receivers with 142 yards and a score on seven grabs while Juston Wara (So. • Oshkosh) has 10 catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

Jared Beckwith is the centerpiece of the UW-Stevens Point offense, throwing for 1,388 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Pointers' passing game ranks second in the WIAC, led by Brad Kalsow's 45 catches and Jenkins's total of 44. On the ground, UW-Stevens Point uses a trio of running backs. Mike Ferron has 243 rushing yards, while T.C. Farber owns 170 and Jack Marx 151.

Brad Vickroy has the second-most sacks in the conference with 4.5 to pace the WIAC's top defensive unit. UW-Stevens Point surrenders just 244 yards per contest, with 76 of those coming on the ground. The Pointers also have three players with three interceptions apiece to pace the league.

UW-Oshkosh's defense features Kevin Bahl (Jr. • Muskego), who ranks third in the WIAC with nine tackles per game. These two teams list first and second in the conference in turnover margin, with the Pointers at +10 and the Titans at +4.

UW-Oshkosh's last two trips to UW-Stevens Point ended with overtime defeats, scores of 27-24 in 2006 and 22-16 in 2004. Last year's bout in Oshkosh saw the Titans prevail, 27-10, on the strength of 288 yards rushing from Andy Moriarty. UW-Oshkosh needed just 26 passing yards by Joe Patek and got a 76-yard touchdown on a fumble return from David Consiglio. Despite the victory, UW-Stevens Point still owns a 58-40-8 advantage in the all-time series.
