Nearly 75 Cross Country Programs To Be Represented At Kollege Town Sports Invitational

Runners from 37 women’s and 36 men’s cross country programs will compete at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 19) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

The men’s 8,000-meter race begins at 10:30 a.m. while the women’s 6,000-meter run commences at 11:20 a.m.

Three-time defending NCAA Division III champion North Central College (Ill.) headlines 10 nationally ranked teams in the men’s field. The Cardinals are also the defending Kollege Town Sports Invitational champion.

The women’s category consists of seven nationally ranked teams, including Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) which won titles at both the Kollege Town Sports Invitational and NCAA Division III Championship a year ago.

This year’s Kollege Town Sports Invitational features programs from nine states – California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon and Wisconsin.

North Central College enters Saturday’s meet as the top-ranked NCAA Division III men’s program in the nation by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The men’s section of the Kollege Town Sports Invitational also includes third-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa), fourth-ranked Washington University in St. Louis, ninth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.), 10th-ranked University of Chicago (Ill.), 13th-ranked Calvin University (Mich.), 23rd-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 28th-ranked UW-Eau Claire, 31st-ranked UW-Oshkosh and 33rd-ranked UW-Stout.

North Central College won last year’s Kollege Town Sports Invitational men’s title with 41 points. The Cardinals were followed in the 37-team meet by second-place Washington University in St. Louis with 97 points, third-place Calvin College (Mich.) with 127, fourth-place Haverford College (Pa.) with 144 and fifth-place Pomona-Pitzer Colleges with 277. UW-Oshkosh placed 20th with 565 points.

Two of the three highest nationally ranked women’s programs, second-ranked University of Chicago and third-ranked Washington University in St. Louis, will be participating in Saturday’s meet.

Other nationally ranked programs competing in the women’s portion of the Kollege Town Sports Invitational are 11th-ranked Wartburg College, 15th-ranked UW-Eau Claire, 17th-ranked Hope College (Mich.), 27th-ranked Elmhurst College (Ill.) and 32nd-ranked UW-Oshkosh.

Washington University in St. Louis returns as the defending women’s champion of the Kollege Town Sports Invitational. The Bears won last year’s title with 70 points.

Rounding out the top five teams from a year ago were second-place Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 108 points, third-place Brandeis University (Mass.) with 213, fourth-place Wheaton College with 236 and fifth-place UW-Eau Claire with 256. UW-Oshkosh finished 21st among 52 teams with 670 points.

Lake Breeze Golf Club does not offer spectator parking for this event. Spectator parking will be located at Winneconne High School (100 Wolf Run). Spectator shuttle buses will be available to transport spectators for a round trip cost of $5. Anyone aged 5 and under are free. The shuttle service begins at 8 a.m.
