American Record Holder Coming To Run Titan 5K

Alan Webb, who holds the American record for the mile, has committed to run the Titan 5K on July 26. The charity fundraiser will be held at Oshkosh’s Menominee Park.

During 2007, Webb ran the mile in a time of 3:46.91 to break a 25-year-old national record. (VIDEO)

Webb owns a personal-best time of 13:10 in the 5,000-meter run. His plan for the Titan 5K is to go through 3,200 meters in 10:10 before closing hard. Webb invites runners to race with him for as long as they can.

Webb will sign autographs following the race. Donations to the Titan 5K charities are encouraged.

The Titan 5K, hosted by UW-Oshkosh's cross country teams, raises money to help end the suffering of 27 million people worldwide who live in slavery. Proceeds go to LOVE146, a nonprofit organization working to abolish child trafficking and exploitation through prevention and aftercare, and Free the Slaves, which helps slaves break free and changes the systems that allow slavery to exist.

The Titan 5K begins at 8:45 a.m., while the Kiddy Quarter (400-meter race) follows at 10 a.m.

The entry fee is $15 until July 14. After that date, the registration fee is $20. All preregistrants receive a T-shirt. The free Kiddy Quarter is for children under the age of 11, and all participants receive a prize. You can also register on race day from 7:15 - 8:25 a.m.

The Titan 5K is open to all ages. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each men's and women's age group.
