NCAA Division III Week - 1996 Women's Indoor Track & Field

UW-Oshkosh recorded its first three-peat when the women’s indoor track & field team won the 1996 NCAA Division III Championship.

The Titans captured the meet with 41 points behind three event victories.

Melissa Oleson earned the weight throw title with a national-record distance of 54-4. She also topped the podium with her shot put of 44-11.75. Oleson was named the Outstanding Athlete of the Meet.

Tara Jaeger successfully defended her long jump title with a mark of 18-1.

UW-Oshkosh also had Lisa Melendez place third in the 400-meter run with a school-record time of 57.42. Sherry Eckhardt (fourth) and Ruth Conlin (sixth) contributed All-America finishes in the shot put.

1996 NCAA Championship Recap

This was the third of six indoor national championships for head coach Deb Vercauteren.

UW-Oshkosh won the 1994 NCAA Division III title with 41 points and the 1995 crown with 42 points.
