NCAA Division III Week - 1987 Women's Cross Country

UW-Oshkosh’s first NCAA Division III women’s title came from the 1987 cross country team.

The Titans totaled 81 points to tie the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) for first place. Ithaca College (N.Y.) was also close, taking third with 85 points. This marked the first tie in NCAA women’s cross country history.

Cheryl Niederberger finished third individually with a time of 17:48. Tiffany Fox also contributed a sixth-place result (17:54) for UW-Oshkosh.

The Titans ended the year by winning their last seven meets. UW-Oshkosh earned the WIAC Championship by scoring 29 points.

Other members of the team were Darcy Beals, Kim Bemowski, Marina Colby, Nancy Dare, Nancy Klatt, Diane LeClaire, Terri Meyer, Lynn Mielke, Tammy Milz, Beth Rafenstein, Sue Taylor, Cathy Vandermar and Wanda Williams.

Deb Vercauteren also received the league’s Coach of the Year award.
