Costa Named Inaugural Women’s Wrestling Head Coach

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Jared Costa was selected as the inaugural head women's and the next assistant men's wrestling coach at UW-Oshkosh. Assistant Chancellor, Athletics Darryl Sims made the announcement Wednesday (July 12) following a national search.

"With how fast women's wrestling is growing, we wanted to ensure that we could find an individual who could lead this program at a high level right out of the gates," Sims said. "I am confident that with Jared's combination of experience as a coach, recruiter and student-athlete, he will be a great addition to this department."

"The Gold Standard of Titan Athletics is going to a new level with the addition of Jared and our women's wrestling program," Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Abby Gildernick added. "Jared has seen success in previous positions, and I am confident that he will be a great coach for our female wrestling student-athletes alongside Coach Konitzer."

Costa joins UWO from Ferrum College (Va.) where he served as the head assistant men's wrestling coach for two seasons and the head assistant women's wrestling coach for one season. In his time at Ferrum, he coached 4 NCAA National Qualifiers and 3 Academic All-Americans.

In addition to practice and match day tasks, Costa assisted in hosting the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship, lead recruiting efforts, oversaw social media and facilitated academic mentorship programming.

Previously, Costa served as an assistant men's wrestling coach for three seasons and an assistant women's wrestling coach for one season at Castleton University (Vt.). At Castleton, 17 of his student-athletes earned Academic All-American honors and two qualified for the NCAA national tournament.

Costa earned his bachelor's degree from Castleton in 2018 and his master's in athletic leadership from Castleton in 2020. As a member of the Castleton wrestling team, he received two All-Region honors as well as two Academic All-America honors.

"I am honored and excited to be joining the UWO family and to be given the opportunity to build the women's wrestling program from the ground up," Costa said. With the combination of UW-Oshkosh's strong tradition in academics and athletics, and the incredible growth of women's wrestling across the country, I believe this program has the potential to accomplish goals at the highest levels on the mat, in the classroom, and produce the next generation of professional leaders!"
