Division III Week Spotlight: Adam Fravert & Matt Wiechmann

Division III Week Spotlight: Adam Fravert & Matt Wiechmann

UW-Oshkosh is among 446 member institutions taking part in NCAA Division III Week from April 13-19.

This year's Division III Week has taken place during an unprecedented time in our nation's history, but its purpose is to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on campus and in the surrounding community.

The event is part of Division III's Identity Initiative, which was introduced in 2010 to sharpen the division's identity and to enable schools and conferences to more effectively explain why they prefer to compete in Division III. The initiative has been guided by a strategic-positioning platform, describing Division III as a place where student-athletes can "follow your passions and develop your potential" within an approach that combines rigorous academics, competitive sports and an opportunity to pursue other interests.

UW-Oshkosh is extremely thankful for the impact that each of our current and former student-athletes have made. They are the nucleus of our Titan Family!

To help focus in on the 600-plus student-athletes that represent UW-Oshkosh each year, let's put the spotlight on seniors Adam Fravert and Matt Wiechmann. Here's what you need to know about them:

Why Did You Choose To Attend UW-Oshkosh?
The culture was something I wanted to be a part of and I could tell right away how close the guys were. UW-Oshkosh was also located close enough to my family.

What Is The Best Thing About Competing In Athletics At UW-Oshkosh?
The bond I have with everyone on the team. We are so close, and I have friendships that are going to last the rest of my life. Competing in front of the "Titan Family" is also a very rewarding feeling.

What Is Your Proudest UW-Oshkosh Athletics Memory?
Other than winning the 2019 national championship I would have to say it was defeating Augustana College in the Elite Eight of 2018 national tournament. It was one of the best games I've ever been a part of and will never forget that night.

What Have You Learned About Yourself From Competing In Athletics At UW-Oshkosh?
I've learned how hard I must work if I want to be successful. My freshman year I was talented, but I never really invested outside of practice. Once I started putting extra work in, I started to realize my potential.

What Do You Plan To Do After Graduation?
I plan on eventually getting my master's in administration so I can be an athletics director.

Being able to play the game I love with my teammates who are like family.

What Is Your Proudest UW-Oshkosh Athletics Memory?
For our program, it was for sure when we came one victory away from advancing to the 2018 NCAA Division III World Series. That was a great year. Personally, it was my first career start at the beginning of this season against Concordia University Chicago.

I've learned how to work through the tough times. There have been many highs and many lows while I've been at UW-Oshkosh and competing has taught me to keep a level head when the seas get rough.

What Do You Plan To Do After Graduation?
I'm trying to find a graduate program for next year where maybe I can use my final year of eligibility. If not, I plan to go in to work as a personal trainer and one day get my physical therapy degree.
