Bio

An Oshkosh native, Ken Riese was an All-WSUC tackle who played offense and defense on the 1935 UW-Oshkosh team that posted a 5-0-1 record and captured the league title.

A 1934 graduate of Oshkosh High School, Riese received four letters and all-conference honors in football and was the Fox Valley Conference shot put champion in 1933. During his two years enrolled at UW-Oshkosh, Riese earned six letters and was the WSUC shot put champion in 1935 and 1936.

Riese also excelled as a guard on the basketball squad. After leaving UW-Oshkosh in 1936, Riese played basketball in the Oshkosh Recreation Department for Abraham and Brown when it captured the city title and placed second in the state recreation tournament in 1939.

Riese was active in the local Elk and Masonic Lodges, as well as the Eagles Club and as president of the Winnebagoland Shrine Celebration and Parade to Oshkosh. The celebration has grown to include the annual Wisconsin Shriner's High School All-Star football game held at UW-Oshkosh's Titan Stadium each July.

Riese worked for, and later operated, Hugo Riese Painting and Decorating in Oshkosh for 40 years before retiring.
