Bio

An advocate of women's roles in athletics and society, Janet Mueller teaches and leads by example. The Oshkosh native developed those special qualities while participating in collegiate athletics and believing that competition is a highly refined form of cooperation. Those values of cooperation have served her well through the years as she attempted to conquer new challenges.

After graduating from Oshkosh High School in 1971, Mueller continued her interest in athletics at UW-Oshkosh, earning a total of 12 varsity certificates in the sports of field hockey (four), track (three), volleyball (three) basketball (one) and softball (one). Culminating those experiences for the former state high school shot put champion was a trip with the UW-Oshkosh field hockey team to the 1973 National Women's Field Hockey Championships in Philadelphia, Pa.

Prior to graduating from UW-Oshkosh in 1975, Mueller helped form the Women's Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Board.

With an outstanding collegiate athletic career behind her, Mueller accepted a position as physical education and health instructor in Melbourne, Australia. During her stay in Australia, Mueller continued to play field hockey, earning All-City First Team honors in 1976.

Mueller returned to Wisconsin in 1978 to attend law school at UW-Madison. While pursuing her law degree, Mueller served as Treasurer of the Women's Law Student Society. Upon receiving her law degree in 1982, Mueller enlisted in the United States Navy and carried on support of women's concerns as a member of the Women and Officer's Professional Network in Great Lakes, Ill. In addition, Mueller also served as a counselor for the Rape Crisis Hotline of Lake County, Ill.

Currently, the former Judge Advocate in the United States Navy lives in Kenosha where she is a staff member of the Legal Action of Wisconsin, an organization that provides legal services to the poor.
