Doug Carriveau demonstrated potential for stardom in basketball during his high school days in Lena, where he lettered four years and totaled 1,272 career points.

At UW-Oshkosh, Carriveau excelled as a basketball player, lettering all four years and serving as captain of the 1964-65 squad.

During the 1962-63 season Carriveau started on a UW-Oshkosh team which won the WSUC title and advanced to the NAIA Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. In 1965 he received All-WSUC and All-NAIA District 14 honors.

Following graduation he took the path from playing to coaching by teaching and heading the football and boys basketball programs at Crivitz High School. His basketball teams won five conference titles and qualified for the public-school state tournament twice, finishing second in Class B in 1972.
