Lohrenz Runs To WIAC Title, Titans Finish Third At League Championship

Hannah Lohrenz became the 10th UW-Oshkosh runner to win a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's cross country title when she defeated 81 other contestants at the league championship (presented by Culver's) held Saturday (Oct. 30) at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax.

Lohrenz, who previously finished 21st at the conference meet in 2019, ninth in 2018 and 45th in 2017, won this year's 6,000-meter race with a time of 22:20.5. The Titans have now owned the winner at the league championship 19 times, including three victories from both Christy Cazzola (2010-12) and Tiffany (Speckman) Ebensperger (1994, 1996-97).

Finishing behind Lohrenz in the individual listings were second-place Carolyn Shult of UW-Eau Claire with a time of 22:34.0, third-place Jenna Lovejoy of UW-La Crosse in 22:34.3, fourth-place Rachel Krouse of UW-Stevens Point in 22:35.1 and fifth-place Emma Malooly of UW-La Crosse in 22:40.2.

UW-La Crosse's Rachel Jeffers took sixth place with a time of 22:41.5 while UW-La Crosse's Maddie Hannan finished seventh in 22:49.1, UW-Eau Claire's Katie Ferris eighth in 22:49.1, UW-Oshkosh's Cyna Madigan ninth in 22:50.2 and UW-Oshkosh's Alexandria Demco 10th in 22:52.0. Demco was a 33rd-place finisher at the league meet in 2019.

UW-Oshkosh scored 83 points to finish third in the team competition for the third consecutive championship. The 16-time WIAC champion Titans tallied 97 points at the league meet in 2019 and 110 in 2018. The 2020 WIAC Championship was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

UW-La Crosse collected the 10th first-place finish in program history with 33 points. Three-time defending champion UW-Eau Claire was second with 62 points, UW-Oshkosh third, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 83, UW-Stout fifth with 119, UW-Whitewater sixth with 192, UW-River Falls seventh with 207 and UW-Platteville eighth with 213. The Titans won a tiebreaker over UW-Stevens Point for third place.

UW-La Crosse entered the meet ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, UW-Eau Claire 20th and UW-Stevens Point 25th.

Helping Lohrenz, Madigan and Demco form UW-Oshkosh's team scoring amount were Amelia Lehman and Meygan Benzing. Lehman finished 30th with a time of 23:49.3 and Benzing 47th in 24:38.7.

The Titans also had Tricia Cich place 57th with a time of 25:07.5, Sydney Fricke 59th in 25:33.3, Lauren Urban 60th in 25:41.8, Logan Krogwold 66th in 26:15.8, Madison Bertram 71st in 27:14.8 and Alexis Reichardt 74th in 27:19.7.

The top seven runners in Saturday's race received All-WIAC First Team recognition, while runners placing eighth through 14th earned Second Team accolades. Individuals finishing 15th through 20th collected Honorable Mention laurels.

Following a weekend off, all eight WIAC programs return to the Whitetail Golf Course on Nov. 13 for the Division III North Regional. The Division III Championship will be held Nov. 20 at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
