Titans Return Seven Runners To WIAC Championship

Hannah Lohrenz seeks her second top-10 finish when the UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team races at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (Presented by Culver's) Saturday (Oct. 30) in Colfax. The 43rd version of the championship begins at 1 p.m. from the Whitetail Golf Course.

Lohrenz is running at the conference meet for the fourth time after finishing 21st at the league event in 2019, ninth in 2018 and 45th in 2017.

UW-Oshkosh also returns six two-time conference championship participants in Meygan Benzing, Tricia Cich, Alexandria Demco, Sydney Fricke, Alexis Reichardt and Lauren Urban. Benzing finished 28th at the 2019 league meet while Demco placed 33rd, Urban 55th, Cich 67th and Fricke 71st. Reichardt was a 53rd-place finisher for the Titans in 2018.

UW-Oshkosh runners making their inaugural appearance at this year's conference championship are Madison Bertram, Logan Krogwold, Amelia Lehman, Cyna Madigan and Daisy Wilson.

All-WIAC First Team performers returning from the 2019 league championship are UW-Eau Claire's Emma Drangstveit (second place) and Naomi Long (seventh) and UW-La Crosse's Maddie Hannan (third), Rachel Jeffers (fourth), Madeline Sweeney (fifth), Maddy Vantassel (11th), Kaylan Marshall (14th), Emma Malooly (15th), Lauren Beauchaine (16th) and Jamie Huber (19th).

The top seven runners in Saturday's 6,000-meter race will receive All-WIAC First Team recognition, while runners placing eighth through 14th earn Second Team accolades. Individuals finishing 15th through 20th collect Honorable Mention laurels.

UW-Oshkosh, a 16-time WIAC champion, scored 97 points to finish third in the team competition at the 2019 league championship for the second consecutive year. The Titans totaled 110 points at the conference meet in 2018. The 2020 WIAC Championship was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

UW-Eau Claire tallied 27 points to win its third straight conference title and 11th overall in 2019. The Blugolds edged UW-La Crosse's second-place score of 33 points for the championship.

Finishing behind third-place UW-Oshkosh in the 2019 team listings were fourth-place UW-Stevens Point with 121 points, fifth-place UW-Stout with 122, sixth-place UW-Whitewater with 150 and seventh-place UW-Platteville with 230 and eighth-place UW-River Falls with 230. UW-Platteville was awarded seventh place over UW-River Falls on a tiebreaker.

UW-La Crosse enters Saturday's meet ranked 11th in Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, UW-Eau Claire 20th and UW-Stevens Point 25th.

In addition to the WIAC championships won by UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse owns nine league titles and UW-Stevens Point two.

Following a weekend off, all eight WIAC programs will participate at the Division III North Regional on Nov. 13 at the Whitetail Golf Course. The Division III Championship will be held Nov. 20 at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
